Autumn Drugstore Lipsticks
L>R: Rosewood, All About Cupcake, In Love With Ginger, Pink in the Afternoon, Wine/107

After all the high end frivolities of my previous post, we come crashing straight back down into the aisles of the drugstore. The majority of the lipsticks I own come from good old Boots or Superdrug. Yes I lust after the high-end goodies like there's no tomorrow, but the fact I can pick up five drugstore shades for the price of one YSL? Well, that always wins. It just seems more guilt-free that way, knowing you've got a right Barry Bargain, and there's the freedom to try aaall the crazy colours without wasting your precious pennies if it doesn't quite suit.

In recent years, drugstore formulas have come on in leaps and bounds, and are now often rivalling the most prestige brands. I can't be the only one that's excited that you don't have to pay the earth for a decent matte lipstick. Lipstick was never something I was all that into until last year. I didn't feel that it ever looked good on me, I found the formulas to be really drying and I was constantly having to top up. I'm going to kick things off with one that is truly worthy of the title of the one that made me see lipsticks in a new light, and that is the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick (£7.99) in Pink in the Afternoon. This is one of those perfect pink shades that never looks OTT, and the warmer tones make it look really sophisticated. I recently rediscovered this shade, after realising it is the perfect match for the Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner (£3.99) in Eastend Snob.

Instead of classic red, I'm more likely to be sporting more of an orange tint. In the last post, I spoke about the beautiful Estée  Lauder (and Kendall Jenner collab) shade Restless, and I mentioned it being the matte equivalent of one of my drugstore favourites. The Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick (£6.49) in In Love With Ginger is a vibrant orangey red that looks awesome paired with minimal makeup and a touch of black liquid liner. The Moisture Renew line does what it says on the tin, but for a shade this bright, the slippy formula just doesn't work for me. To get a bit more longevity from the shade, I layer it with the GOSH Velvet Touch Lipliner (£4.99) in Flirty Orange. The texture of these lipliners is wonderfully creamy and incredible for the price, I really must pick up a few more shades.

In recent times I have seriously fallen for the Essence Sheer & Shine Lipstick (£2) in All About Cupcake. Being such a budget product, I never expected to love it as much as I do, but this is the perfect everyday, throw-in-your-bag lipstick. The sheer peachy pink really brightens up your complexion and the formula is so balmy and moisturising. These are a much more affordable version of the Revlon Lip Butters that everyone was raving about circa winter 2013. You could buy one in every shade to throw in every handbag at this price.

I know I was seriously late to the game, but I adored Pretty Little Liars. That might have led me to make a cheeky little purchase of the Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick (£7.99) in Rosewood because you don't know how much I want to be a Pretty Little Liar. Except for the 'A game'. I'd have no time for the 'A game'. Plus I'm a wuss, but priorities... I had seen a few bloggers talk about this shade, and mainly bought it for novelty value, but I hadn't expected it to be so pretty. This is a warm dusky pink shade that's not quite berry, not quite nude and really pulls together a makeup look.

It wouldn't be Autumn without a pure berry lip, and this one is a walking, talking blogger cliché in itself. The Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick (£5.49) in 107 Wine (it has a name now?) is a beautiful raspberry shade that just glides onto the lips. I paired this with the Essence Lip Liner (99p) in Honey Berry, which has a similar vibrant raspberry tone. On a side note, I found Honey Berry to be very drying compared to some of Essence's other lip liners, which was particularly disappointing as they are usually some of my favourite liners.

Recommend me some drugstore lipsticks!
