New-In Perfume Launches: October

New-In Perfume Launches: October

Autumn is well and truly upon us, and something that I do love to change with the seasons is my fragrance. I love having different scents that remind me of different times throughout the year. One of my favourite scents is Diptyque Philosykos, which well and truly reminds me of the fall, with it's juicy fig and woody combination of notes, but that's not to say there isn't any more room in my collection for a new autumn scent. I thought I would do a quick run-down of some of the most notable fragrance launches from the last month or so.

New-In Perfume Launches: October

Maison Margiela Replica Filters
Perfume oil
Not yet available

One of the most interesting new launches is from Maison Margiela, who have developed two "Filter" dry perfume oils, Blur and Glow, to act like Instagram filters for your personal scent. Glow contains zesty, solar notes of neroli, grapefruit blossom, bergamot, and rose absolute to add a radiant touch to a fragrance. Blur, on the other hand, acts like a soft focus filter, with clean, aldehydic cotton notes, as well as jasmine and musk. It's a really interesting concept and it's great to see brands being so innovative.

Alaía Eau de Parfum Blanche

Next is the follow-up to one of my favourite scents of last year and that is Alaía Eau de Parfum Blanche. The first was a deep, sensual leather scent, inspired by Azzedine's childhood spent in Tunisia. This time around, it is the fortress of Alhambra in Granada that has inspired the fragrance. With white milky florals, solar and powdery accords, as well as vanilla and musk, I am highly anticipating this fragrance. I only hope it can live up to the debut.

Balenciaga b Balenciaga Intense
Eau de Parfum
Not yet available

Balenciaga b Balenciaga Intense juxtaposes cool woody top notes with refreshing green tea and blueberries. Blueberries appear to be a bit of a trend in fragrances this season, as shown by the next scent. The top notes are accompanied by a heart of Night Blooming Cereus (something I've never heard of but it sounds magical) and a woody base of cedar. This sounds like a really interesting combination and I think the deep raspberry tones of the bottle are gorgeous!

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir Intense
Eau de Parfum

Another one to feature blueberry as the central note is Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir Intense, with its eye catching blue bottle. The original name for this is actually La Petite Robe Noire Ma Robe Sous le Vent, which translates to "my dress in the wind". It has a delectable sounding scent pyramid, as is meant to have a sweeter composition compared to the previous La Petite Robe Noir scents. Notes include cotton candy, fresh bergamot, blueberry, bulgarian rose, patchouli, white musk, sandalwood and vanilla. It sounds really interesting so definitely going to give this one a sniff.

Victoria Secret Intense
Eau de Parfum

One that sounds absolutely gorgeous for the autumn is Victoria Secret Intense. "No limits. Too much is never enough with an intoxicating blend of salted praline coconut and creamy florals...”. This contains notes of plum noir, exotic saffron, creamy florals, forbidden apple, salted coconut praline and suede musk. I'm particularly intrigued by the praline and suede notes, hopefully I'll manage to get to a VS store to sample this!

Thierry Mugler Angel Étoile des Rêve
Eau de Parfum
Not yet available

Thierry Mugler have released yet another reincarnation of their iconic Angel fragrance, Angel Étoile des Rêves. This one actually also comes in candle form for the first time, which is amazing if you are an angel addict. Limited edition Étoile des Rêves has been designed for night time wear, and this is reflected in the moon and stars packaging.

"Wrap yourself with a delicate negligee of scent as you unveil a new night ritual with the sensual ANGEL Etoile des Rêves. This new Star is an intimate, intense version of ANGEL with an intoxicating fragrance that lasts... all night long. Even the stars won't resist you!"

This reinterpretation is an oriental gourmand with soft white musk to allude to silk lingerie and cashmere blankets. There are also notes of bergamot, praline, patchouli and vanilla. I do like Angel, although I don't own it, so I'm intrigued to see how this one compares.

In keeping with the gourmand notes of Angel, the note pyramid of Anna Sui L'Amour Rose is a subtle nod, with its combination of macaron, pistachio and cotton candy. It is designed to be bright, irresistible and cheery with top notes of mandarin, pistachio and macaron. The heart has a happy chic vibe with Parisian cherry blossom and yellow mimosa and then the base is comforting and decadent with pink cotton candy and sheer musk. I love the sound of the notes in this, it sounds deliciously fun and girlie, so I'm definitely going to be smelling this soon!

Michael Bublé By Invitation
Eau de Parfum
from £29 for 30ml

The first of two notable celebrity fragrances recently launched is By Invitation, the debut from none other than Mr Bublé. I think now, perfumers of celebrity scents are catching on and straying from the stereotypical sickly sweet candy scents, and looking more towards florals and woods, becoming more wearable for those older than 12. This one is subtle nod to gourmand scents, with its juicy berry top notes and creamy base of vanilla and praline. It is given a more sophisticated edge with its floral heart of rose, jasmine, peony and lily of the valley. I've heard really good things about this scent so far!

Sarah Jessica Parker Stash SJP
Eau de Parfum
from £28 for 30ml

The other celebrity fragrance in my line up is Stash SJP. I loved Sarah Jessica Parker's popular debut fragrane, Lovely, and this comes as an antidote to that, being the "naughty, submersive sibling". Stash SJP is a unisex aromatic woody scent, inspired by body odours, church and leather. It has top notes of grapefruit, pepper and sage, with a heart of atlas cedar, patchouli, ginger lily and pistachio and a warm base of olibanum, massoia wood, vetiver and musk. It's amazing to see something that takes everything we think we know about a celebrity perfume and throw it on its head.

Charlotte Tilbury Scent of a Dream
Eau de Parfum

As a self-confessed Tilbs fangirl, I was more than excited when I saw that my fave sassy lady had released her first fragrance. Inspired by Kate Moss (who also fronts the ad campaign), this one has an interesting and complex composition, with top notes of lemon, peach, mandarin, bergamot, saffron and black pepper. The heart is made up of sensual tuberose, violet, patchouli and incense, and the base ramps up the heat with ambroxan, hedione and ISO-E Super and fire tree. I am well aware I sound like I'm talking a different language, in simple terms, these are all molecules that work with your own body chemistry to create an addictive quality. You can read more about ISO-E Super in this post.

Chanel N°5 L'Eau
from £68 for 50ml

Last (and kinda least) is one that I sniffed very recently. Chanel N°5 has been reworked for 2016 in the form of the high profile N°5 L'Eau. This one is the N°5 for millennials, with a fresher, lighter composition with May rose from Grasse at the centre of the fragrance. L'Eau has top notes of lemon, mandarin, orange, neroli and aldehydes. It has a gentle heart of rose, ylang-ylang and jasmine, and a cool base of cedar and white musk. When I tried it on my wrist, it seemed to disappear very quickly. Whilst adehydes aren't really my thing, I was expecting a lot more from this one. Maybe I'll have to give it another chance!
